Dream Forlorn #Sonnet

Did you know that the Sonnet is a poetic form that originated in Italy?

It is derived from the Italian word, "Sonetto".

All of us must have heard of the Shakespearean Sonnet. A sonnet is a fourteen lined Poem that follows a strict Rhyme Scheme. The Italian Sonnets followed a different rhyme scheme, while the Shakespearean Sonnet followed another.

I tried my hands on the Italian Sonnet rhyme scheme which is a-b-b-a-a-b-b-a-c-d-e-c-d-e.

Intense, the emotions I wish to subdue (a)
Imagining a world so calm and serene (b)*
I lay in the pasture, wide and green (b)*
Immersed in a daydream, world I bid adieu (a)
Innate my desires, Ah the mind too shrew (a)
Incognito I wander in my kingdom like a queen (b)*
Indifferent of the sphere, nowhere to be seen (b)*
In this time, the soul yearns to be born anew (a)
Infatuated I walk, into that garden so dense (c)**
Incessantly with no rest, driven by instinct (d)***
Into the wild, am I lost with no retreat (e)****
Instantly, courage I gather, covering my pretense (c)**
Infected with sweat, Illusions become extinct, (d)***
Inherently awakened, the morning I greet (e)****

I went through a website called  DailyPost, where they provide 365 writing prompts in an ebook format. You can download it from here.

The prompt for October 1st is -

Fearful symmetry

Pick a letter, any letter. Now, write a story, poem, or post in which every line starts with that letter.

I have written a Sonnet in which every line begins with the letter "I".

#Proud Indian's post (MOM)

Mars Orbiter Mission - India - ArtistsConcept.jpg

It makes me proud as an Indian to say that the Indian Space research Organization(ISRO), successfully sent Mangalyaan (MOM) into the Martian Orbit, making India the first Asian country and also the first in the world to have successfully acheived it in the maiden attempt. The brilliance and intelligence of Indian Scientists proves that out country is never behind in such massive operations. When I read the news paper this morning, I had goosebumps, I was proud that my country was making a mark and proving that this is just the beginning for many more acheivements like this.

As a tribute, I present a small Haiku,

Feet in red planet,
Intelligence and brilliance,
Mangalyaan in Mars.

The next Haiku is inspired by the prompt at Haiku Horizons, "SPACE". How we wish to run back to our homes everyday? How we wish to be aloof from the noise?

Away from Clamor
Tranquility at apex
I, Me and Myself

To move on

Not once could you stand for me,
You had not guts to hold me,
To make those moments mean forever,
That were once in my spheres,
That meant never to be over.

You made huge promises,
But each in halfheartedness,
That became alive with every dawn,
And fell apart with every dusk.

In belief I trusted each word you said,
In faith I waited quiet beside you,
In hope for that eternity with you,
I averted my present and let it go.

You picked and pricked,
Every part of my heart,
Where blood oozed with your name in it.

What did you think I was made of?
A paper to be torn and thrown,
Or a stone to be crushed and broken,
Alas you never realised,
That I was a woman to be loved and lived.

I lost in the struggle to be loved,
Not again would I let you take a chance,
To play with my heart and leave it in a stance,
I promise to move on,
For the love which was your lie.

I heard the song, "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri and was inspired to write this :)

Time and Again !!

Haiku Prompt #266: "Time"

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "TIME".

We witness the only constant change every single day. Don't we?

Only constant change,

No stoppable barricades,

We move with it's pace.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cry in vain every morning when my alarm rings. Don't you?

Assiduously,

Averting irritation,

Rings the alarm, vain.

On her wedding !!

It was a rainy evening,
The mighty clouds thundering,
The window panes shuddering,
And her heart inversely beating.

T'was the day of her wedding,
With eyes moist and gleaming,
She stood near the window staring,
A letter which said NO, in her hand holding.

He was never there,
And she was left to be nowhere,
With promises to keep,
A long life to leap.

In the thuds of the droplets,
That hit her window's glasses,
She hid her sobs and tears,
Reminiscing those blissful moments.

He was gone forever,
She was meant for another,
What remained were just a few glimpses,
Of the times that passed in smiles,
She hopelessly stood waiting,
Decked in a white gown shimmering,
Thinking he would come at the door standing,
 On that rainy evening.

Haiku Prompt #264 : "Swing"

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "Swing".

The pendulum swings ceasing the past from us, making us live in the present and taking us to the future.

Imagine a beautiful woman pass by, I am sure a million eyes will sway in sync with her movements.

Unknown angel !!

Haiku Prompt #258 : "Lunch"

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "Lunch".

The Haiku written written for the prompt, "Lunch" is inspired by the "Share My dabba" campaign brought about by Ms. Singh in Mumbai. Each day 16 tonnes of food gets wasted in these dabbas. According to this campaign the participant can place a "Share"sticker on their dabba and the dabbawalas in turn give these dabbas to Ms. Singh. She feeds the street children this food.

Such a noble deed indeed !!

The street kids are satisfied for the day but they are not sure about the morrow, nevertheless Ms. Singh is their angel and Hero.

You can also visit this page for the details (http://www.thenational.ae/news/world/south-asia/mumbais-dabbawalas-begin-deliveries-to-hungry-children)

Famished, run in glee

Satisfied, morrow unknown

Angel in disguise

After death - Enigma !!

Haiku Prompt #257 : "Enigma "

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "Enigma ".

The Haiku written written for the prompt, "Enigma" is inspired by the mystery surrounding the life after death. Scholars and philosophers have described heaven and hell in versatile manners. We perceive Heaven as a place which describes the land flowing with pure honey and Hell as a land filled with deadly venom. Whatever we perceive it is after all an "enigma".

Oasis, pure honey

Canyon of noxious venom

Heaven Hell, Enigma

Ripples by a thirsty bird...

Haiku Prompt #256 : "Ripples"

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "Ripples".

The Haiku written written for the prompt, "Ripples" is inspired by a thirsty bird in search for water. The bird finally finds a pool of water and as the ripples are formed by its beak touching the water, have you ever imagined the solace that the bird gets?

Bird beak pecking, thirst,

Summer's sweltering cruel heat

Soothing throat, Luscious

Soul Annihilated

Haiku Prompt #254 : "Moral"

The Haiku Prompt inspired by "Haiku Heights" is "Moral".
After analyzing the prompt over and over again, I came up with a rather social topic. My Haiku on "Moral" depicts the cry of an innocent prisoner who is spending his life in the prison for the crime he has never committed.
This one's dedicated to such prisoners.

Morals massacred

Sentence served, prison bars clinched

Crime uncommitted

Eyes Speak

"Haiku" has been interesting me a lot these days. And here is my first attempt to write a Haiku. This post is inspired by the prompt "ECCENTRIC" given on Haiku Heights .

I have tried to use the word Eccentric to portray the eyes of the victim of a terrorist attack. Eyes speak and perceive a million emotions. And when an incident so bizarre and eccentric occurs then this is what the eyes portray - before and after the incident.

Blithe, serene, passive

Flash of spell fell eccentric

Eyes perceive weary

The Secret

To learn to smile in my tears,
To learn to be happy in my failures.

To learn to be patient in my distress,
To learn to be calm in my anxiety.

To learn to negotiate with my fate,
To accept and be glad with my destiny.

To disregard the failures of yesterday,
To realize what's gone is away.

To be content with what is today,
To be open to what ahead lay.

To learn from my mistakes,
To learn not to commit them again.

To wish for another chance,
To make things fine within a glance.

To know that what's said above is so very rare,
But yes there lies the secret to a content life.

Lost and Found !!!!

On that enchanting evening,
When the night was sailing,

To make its way enjoying,

To take away the light and scaring.

Drops of waves soothed my hand,

As I sat, a thousand thoughts graving my mind,

Longing to be touched and embraced,

After all that’s been taken away.

Lone with the burdens,

Shackled and tormented,

Grieved and derided,

Misery my friend and peace my foe.

Tossed a bottle of gin,

Which with much difficulty,

Had tried to accompany,

But unable to smear the dainty worry.

A sudden touch gripped me,

Astounded and bewildered I turned,

To watch and perceive,

She sat beside me and laid me on her lap,

Solace and Silence she appeased me.

No place on this earth,

No touch could replace,

No warmth could inebriate,

It was my mother so meek and humble,

So angelic and blissful.

She held my hand and walked along,

Embraced me and held me close,

And in an instant chased me fears,

O ‘ mother thou art my angel,

Thou art my refuge when the day’s gone.

A small tribute to every mother who makes our life so wonderful. Happy mother’s day !!!

Life is not blind

Darkness is all I have known,
Brightness is something I perceive.

Shut are the doors of my vision,
Open - a journey so forlorn.

My soul yearns from within,
In search it keeps wandering.

He stumbles then rises,
Endures never forsaking.

Unaware am I,
Of the colour of my skin, my hair, my blood.
They say it's white, black and red,
Alas.... pitied by their vibes,
They pity my existence.

Echoes of difference,
I use, to judge every instance.
My senses are unyielding,
My soul pursues and keeps moving.

Humbled and obliged,
Praises to my being,
I know where I am heading,
My soul takes me along.

Meek are those many,
Who quest for their harbor,
Brave is my soul not weary,
It knows what to discover..

I am blind for that's what they say,
I seek, beseech and search,
My soul finds the key to my destiny,
My life is not blind,
For I can see my victory,
It lies in the luminosity.......

Not to be held, Never to withhold,
Need no eyes to feel the bliss,
Fighting the adversaries,

I strive to live long,

With eyes to see, With colours to dignify,
Why do you fall and give up?
Why do you live to die?

I did drive them crazy

Flaunting my jazz blue colour
I drove in style and splendour
My wheels were meant to race
I was a sense of pride and grace

With groovy lights, a mirror cracking gazelle
Caught many a eyes , “ Oh my” I was ethereal
Wondered what was so special
That when I passed was glared by a lot.

Once on a bright summer day
I was with him when he gazed away
She was the love at first sight
And he wanted to set everything so right.

He used me to drive her crazy
I accepted to impress her with simplicity
They shared their moments of love and romance
I saw the love grow in my ambience.

The date was fixed to tie the knot
I was florally dressed in red and white
Many a trips they had enjoyed
But today’s was different, I was overjoyed.

Months passed, years rolled over
I started to screech, my speed grew slower
Tried my best to pull my engine together
Oiled my self to be more smoother.

Then the day dawned that I dreaded ever
I was old and gloomy , replaced with something newer
Discouraged, disheartened, demoralized
I was sold to someone not my own.

Promises forgotten I cursed a many
Time cures every a wound they say
Acquainted I became with my new family
But forgetting the old, a deep sad misery.

Taking a vow, never to be sad
I started to care again and felt being loved
Confidence was what I had lost
Perseverance was what I gained.

Another beautiful summer morning
And I was doing what I loved the most, “driving”
Far across , met my old buddies
Sadness disappeared, I jerked, winking away happily

I am the voice of a vehicle so loved, the voice of four wheeled CAR.
